Field Recording
I’ve only been field recording for a few years but I really enjoy it. It is one of those things I often forget to do, or I’m never quite prepared for it. Sometimes I don’t have the right equipment with me, or in fact any equipment, but when I do I really like to capture interesting sounds and textures.
More recently I’ve started recording with RJDJ on my iPhone and making a variety of recordings using different scenes. You can hear a bunch of my recordings here.
I realise that this isn’t strictly field recording, but I like it simply because I find the experience really interesting. Making a form of soundtrack out of your surroundings is loads of fun.
I also make fairly random recordings during the day and most of them are here. You’ll find all sorts of things there from everyday sounds to some more unusual things too.
I used to use FreeSound quite a lot some years ago and put some of my field recordings up there, but I haven’t been back to the site in ages now. I really should check it out again as it was a great place for field recordings and sounds.
So more to come, but for now, try out the RJDJ recordings if you have an open mind.
I’m also using a variety of other apps for field recording now. For instance:
- FIRe Recorder 2
- FIRe Studio
- Retronyms Recorder
They’re all good apps for recording on the go, and I especially like FIRe Studio at the moment.
