The Vintage Engine

I recorded these samples whilst watching / helping out at last year’s London to Brighton Vintage Car Rally. I made the rhythm track a while back and them it sat there for ages. Then last week a few ideas came together and this got made.

I hope you like it.

A dip in the music pool

During a two hour drive I put my iPod on shuffle, which always results in a wonderfully random mix of horror and delight at what’s collected in there over the years. I love finding things that I haven’t listened to in far too long, and other tracks that I have no recollection of whatsoever.

I think I should try this on a more regular basis, except that perhaps only going into shuffle mode on a random basis seems more appropriate.

Car sounds and the donut

I pulled a load of my samples of veteran cars into The Strange Agency’s Donut iPad app yesterday and had a lot of fun just manipulating them for a while. It made me think about doing something a little more permanent with these samples so I’m loading them into BeatMaker 2 to see what I can make that might be interesting.

When I’m done with it I’ll post up the results.

The Veteran Programme

Ok, my last post about the veteran car rally for this year anyway. I’ve never had a programme from the rally before, so it was great to get one this year after so many years of watching the event.

London to Brighton, the Veteran Car Rally

This year was the first time I actually helped out (sort of) with the veteran car rally. It’s an awesome event, and I’ve watched it to a greater or lesser degree for years and years now. This year for the first time I got a programme as well. In fact I didn’t even know that there were programmes for the rally.

I got a few half decent photos, or at least photos I think are half decent and I’ll post them soon enough, but I really liked this one a lot.

I nearly had it

A while back I nearly bought this car. It was a joy to look at but a nightmare to own. It had so many problems you could’ve written a book about it, so in many ways I’m glad I didn’t buy it, but I also really regret it too.

It would have been a brilliant car even though it would have been a money pit. Perhaps sometimes you should do things that you know are wrong or bad for you or whatever just because it might be fun. Sometimes maybe it is worth taking a risk just to do something for the sheer joy of it.

I regret not getting the car. I hope I won’t make the same mistake again, but I can’t be sure.

Vintage Car Rally

Today was the London to Brighton Vintage Car Rally. I love watching these ancient vehicles on their way to Brighton. Every year I decide to make a real effort to watch as much of the rally as I can and every year something gets in the way. Usually staying in bed longer.

Today I managed to see more of it than I have for the last 3 years which was great, but even so I didn’t see as much as I’d like to. Maybe next year.
