Revisiting Nine Horses

I had a 40 minute drive to do (each way) today and realised that my iPod was completely out of charge, so I had no choice but to take a couple of CDs with me for the journey. One of these was Nine Horses ‘Snow Bourne Sorrow’, which, in hindsight, as it’s been a snowy day, perhaps wasn’t such a good idea.

Anyway, I listened to Snow Bourne Sorrow on the way home, and I was so pleased that I did. It has amazing songs, but most of all I was impressed with the quality and poignancy of the lyrical content. I’d forgotten these songs, and they deserve a listen quite regularly. So I think a Nine Horses re-listen is on the way for me very soon.

Snow Borne Sorrow - Nine Horses

Goodbye Mary

So sad to hear this morning that Mary Tamm has died aged 62. I don’t really have the right words for this sort of thing, it’s probably best to just say that I think I need to watch the entire Key to Time story again now.

Alan Turing exhibition at the Science Museum

I didn’t even know that this exhibition was on at the Science museum, and I was only really there for Music day, so it was a real bonus to see it. Some nice exhibits and a lot of information packed into a very small space. I think I’ll need to see it again at least once if not more times.

Listening to Shriekback

I hadn’t listened to this band in a long time and decided to play their last few albums on Spotify. I’d forgotten just how good their lyrics were. It was a great listen and brought back a load of memories too.

If you haven’t heard any shriekback then I’d suggest you give them a listen as they were a great band with a great sound.

1 Year since Elizabeth Sladen sadly left us

I couldn’t believe it when I read it this morning. A whole year since the incredible Elizabeth Sladen left us. I thought I should post something simple to remember her.

Some thoughts on listening to InGladAloneness

Having got the CD I listened to these few last tracks by Mick Karn and Dalis Car. It felt strange to hear his work. The tracks are very good. Very Dalis Car, in keeping with the first album which has always been a favourite for me.

I think I’ll need to listen to the tracks a few more times though to really get into them and get used to them if that makes sense.

InGladAloneness

The last work from Mick Karn and Dalis Car. I got my copy today. It’s signed by Steve Jansen. I’m really looking forward to listening to it.

Remembering Fad Gadget

I can’t believe it was 10 years ago Frank Tovey aka Fad Gadget passed away. My favourite track of his, “King of the Flies”. Excellent music.

An old song, but one that brings back good memories

I listened to this a few days ago and it brought back so many good memories that I decided that I should post it to SoundCloud and let others enjoy it, or not of course, as the case may be.

Anyway, I hope you do enjoy it.

Happy birthday Douglas

I was watching the new series of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency last night and remembered that today would have been Douglas Adams’ birthday. He would have been 60 today.

I loved Hitchhiker’s and have only recently got into Dirk Gently, but the work I most loved was what he did in Doctor Who. I leant the Big Finish version of Shada with Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor to a friend at work the other day. He really enjoyed it and commented on just how much humour there was in it. What else would you expect from such a talented writer.

He will continue to be missed, but his excellent work lives on.

InGladAloness released on the 20th

New material from Dali’s Car is being released on the 20th of February. I’m really looking forward to the release, especially as it was the last music made by Mick Karn. So I’ve ordered my copy already.

Seems like there’ll be lots of new music this month.

Remembering Elizabeth Sladen today

She would have been 66 years old today. We remember a wonderful actress who made a huge contribution to British Science Fiction and was brilliant in Doctor Who and her own excellent series.

She is missed.

Remembering Martyn Bennet

Whilst I didn’t know him really, I mark this day every year. Remembering the passing of a great musical talent.

I shall listen to ‘Grit’ by Martyn later today.

The Veteran Programme

Ok, my last post about the veteran car rally for this year anyway. I’ve never had a programme from the rally before, so it was great to get one this year after so many years of watching the event.

Old Badges

Interesting what things from the past rise to the surface from time to time. I’ve had these two badges for many years now and I can’t remember the last time I saw them.

They bring back lots of good memories.
